Destination Wedding Painting
in Hawaii & Worldwide
Imagine your destination wedding captured in an original oil painting that is made live on your wedding. I am Ariel Quiroz, the artist behind Maui Wedding Art, a Hawaii-based studio on the island of Maui. I specialize in Live Wedding Paintings for couples saying "I do" anywhere in Hawaiʻi and for destination weddings across the United States and Canada.
Whether you are planning an intimate ceremony on Maui, a celebration on Oahu, a cliffside moment on Kauaʻi, a resort wedding on Hawaiʻi Island (Big Island), a getaway on Lānaʻi, or a destination wedding on the mainland, I bring a fine art experience that blends live art entertainment with a timeless wedding painting you can hang in your home.

Key Services
-
Live painting at your destination venue
I set up my easel at your ceremony, first look, first dance, or reception and paint the scene as it unfolds. Guests can watch the painting come to life and see your story captured in real time. You can learn more about what a live wedding painting is in my glossary. -
Custom studio commissions from photos
If travel is not practical or you discover me after your wedding, I can create a commissioned wedding portrait from your professional photos that still carries the emotion and atmosphere of the day. I also offer broader commission portraits beyond weddings. -
Personalized guest favors with live portraits
If you want to treat your guests, I can offer small live portraits as favors through my Live Guest Portraits services, including live guest watercolors, live guest paintings, or live guest caricatures. For corporate style or high volume events, I also offer caricature artist services and Hit and Run caricatures. If you are planning guest portraits, my FAQ on how many guest portraits I can create per hour is a helpful reference. -
Travel and logistics handled for you
As a Maui-based artist, I frequently travel between Maui, Oahu, Hawaiʻi Island (Big Island), Kauaʻi, and Lānaʻi, and I also travel to destination weddings across the US and Canada. I handle my own travel logistics, materials, and safe transport of the artwork so you can focus on enjoying your day. If you are still in the planning phase, you might also find my resource on getting married in Maui and the Maui wedding checklist useful.
The Destination Wedding Painting Process

For a deeper dive into my method, you can also visit my dedicated Live Wedding Painting Process page. Here is the quick version:
1. Inquiry and consultation
You reach out with your date, location, and a few details about your vision using my contact form or booking page. We schedule a Zoom or phone consultation so I can learn more about your venue, timeline, and what you would love to see in the painting. We also discuss whether your wedding will be in Hawaiʻi, on the mainland US, or in Canada, so I can factor in travel needs.
2. Custom proposal and booking
After the consultation, I put together a clear proposal with your preferred canvas size, level of detail, and estimated travel expenses. A 50 percent retainer officially reserves your date. If you want to understand how investment works in general, you can review my FAQs on live wedding painting pricing, wedding painter cost, and general pricing. I only take a limited number of destination weddings each year so that each painting receives the right amount of attention.
3. Painting day at your destination
On the wedding day, I arrive early to coordinate with your planner or venue team, choose the best vantage point, and begin sketching the composition. Throughout your ceremony or reception, I build up layers of color and detail so guests can watch the painting evolve while they celebrate with you. If you are still choosing vendors, my vendor resources and lists of planners, photographers, videographers, florists, and venues can help round out your team.
4. Studio refinement back in Maui
After your event, the painting travels back with me to my studio on Maui. There, I refine faces, clothing, lighting, architecture, and background details so the artwork feels rich and complete. If you are curious about how I work with texture, color, and technique, you can explore my skills and style page or read definitions of alla prima impression, texture painting, impasto, glazing, and palette knife work in my glossary.

5. Varnish, packing, and shipping
Once the oil paint has reached a safe stage, I apply a protective varnish and professionally pack the painting for shipping. Questions about delivery are covered in my FAQ on wedding painting shipping. Your finished piece is then shipped or hand delivered when possible to your home, whether you live in Hawaiʻi, the mainland US, or Canada. If you are gifting this experience, there is also an option to purchase a Maui Wedding Art gift card.
More Than a Painting: The Maui Wedding Art Experience
A destination wedding painting is not just a record of what happened. It is a way to hold onto the feeling of your day and the place where you chose to promise your lives to each other. To learn more about my philosophy as an artist, you can visit my bio, mission, and vision pages.
Benefits of a Destination Wedding Painting
-
A timeless heirloom for your home
Your painting becomes a central piece in your home, a daily reminder of the landscape, the light, and the people who surrounded you at your destination wedding. You can explore some of my favorite pieces in the gallery and portfolio. -
Unique entertainment for your guests
Guests love checking on the painting during cocktail hour and the reception. For many, it is the first time they have seen a live wedding painter in Hawaii, and it becomes a natural gathering point and conversation starter. -
Stress free logistics for destination couples
You do not have to worry about how to transport a large canvas or who will coordinate an artist’s travel. I handle my own flights, lodging, local transport, and art supplies, whether your wedding is on Oahu, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, Lānaʻi, the mainland US, or Canada. -
A personal connection to Hawaiʻi and the spirit of aloha
As a Hawaii based artist on Maui, my approach is shaped by the light, color, and culture of the islands. You can read more about the meaning behind my work and values on my About, Inspiration, and ESG pages.
A Glimpse of Past Destination Weddings
Every destination has its own character. A sunset ceremony in Wailea feels different from a misty morning gathering in upcountry Maui. A beach wedding on Oahu has a different energy than a mountain backdrop in Canada or a vineyard in California.
On the Hawaiian islands, I frequently paint at venues on:
-
Maui – oceanfront estates, historic plantations, resorts, and private homes
-
Oahu – coastal venues, hotel ballrooms, and lush garden settings
-
Hawaiʻi Island (Big Island) – resort properties with lava rock, palms, and wide open skies
-
Kauaʻi – dramatic cliffs, tropical gardens, and north shore beaches
-
Lānaʻi – intimate, secluded resorts and quiet, luxurious settings
Beyond Hawaiʻi, I travel for couples hosting destination weddings across the United States and Canada, from coastal locations to city venues and mountain resorts.

Specializing in Hawaii Destination Weddings
Maui Wedding Art is rooted in Lahaina, Maui, and that local perspective matters when you are planning a wedding from far away. I know how the light changes throughout the day, how trade winds can shift, and how to work smoothly with local planners and venues. My vendor resources, especially the list of wedding planners, can help you round out your Hawaii team.
When you choose Maui Wedding Art for your destination wedding, you are working with a Hawaii based artist who regularly travels for weddings on:
-
Maui – where my studio is located
-
Oahu – including many resort and coastal venues
-
Hawaiʻi Island (Big Island)
-
Kauaʻi
-
Lānaʻi
From there, my reach extends to destination weddings across the US and Canada, depending on dates and travel logistics. All travel related costs are clearly outlined in your custom proposal so you understand the full investment before you book.

Destination Wedding Painting FAQs
If you would like a broader overview, you can also visit my main FAQ page.
How far in advance should I book my destination wedding painter?
For destination weddings, especially in Hawaiʻi or popular US and Canadian locations, I recommend booking 6 to 18 months in advance. This ensures we can coordinate travel, secure your date on my calendar, and collaborate with your planner or venue. My FAQ on live wedding painting pricing also explains how timing affects availability.
Do you travel outside Maui to other Hawaiian islands?
Yes. I frequently travel from Maui to Oahu, Hawaiʻi Island (Big Island), Kauaʻi, and Lānaʻi for weddings. Island specific information is available on pages like live wedding painter near Oahu, live wedding painter near Kauai, and wedding painter near you in Big Island. Travel costs vary based on flights, lodging, and local transportation, and they are always included in your custom quote for full transparency.
Do you travel for destination weddings in the US or Canada?
Yes. I am available for destination weddings across the United States and Canada, depending on dates and travel feasibility. If your celebration is on the mainland or in Canada, we discuss travel time, shipping, and scheduling in advance so everything feels smooth and well planned. For more about my approach to travel and logistics, see the wedding painting and live event painting service pages.
How are travel fees handled for destination weddings?
Travel fees are calculated based on the location of your venue and typically include airfare from Hawaiʻi, lodging, ground transportation, and any shipping costs for materials or the finished painting. All of these details are outlined clearly in your proposal so you see the full picture up front. You can always contact me directly through the contact page if you would like a specific estimate for your location.
What happens if my wedding runs late or the schedule changes?
Weddings are living events and timing can shift. Within reason, I stay flexible on the day to complete the core moment we planned to capture. If the schedule changes significantly or you decide you would like more coverage or an additional scene, we can discuss extending time or adding extra studio work as an upgrade. My wedding schedule resource and wedding checklist can also help you build a realistic timeline.
Can you include specific family members or pets in the destination painting?
Yes. During your consultation, we talk through which people are most important to include, whether that is parents, grandparents, your wedding party, children, or pets. Larger groups or many detailed faces may require a larger canvas and more studio time, and I will guide you toward the size that fits your vision and budget. If you want to see how different compositions look, my gallery and portfolio are good places to start.
How is the painting shipped after a destination wedding?
After your wedding, I bring the painting safely back to my studio on Maui for refinements and varnishing. When it is ready, I pack it using professional art packing materials and ship it to your home. The shipment is insured, and I provide tracking so you can follow its journey from Hawaiʻi to your doorstep, whether you live in the islands, the mainland US, or Canada. For more details, visit the FAQ on wedding painting shipping.
Can you create a painting from photos if travel is not possible?
Absolutely. If travel is not feasible or your wedding has already passed, I can create a destination wedding painting from high quality photos provided by you and your photographer. This falls under my commission wedding portrait services. We will still have a consultation to discuss your priorities, the setting, and which moments you would like to highlight so the final piece feels just as intentional and personal.
Ready to Capture Your Destination Wedding on Canvas?
If you are planning a destination wedding in Hawaiʻi or anywhere in the United States or Canada and you feel drawn to the idea of a live painting, I would be honored to learn more about your plans.
I accept a limited number of destination weddings each year so that every couple receives focused attention, from the first sketch to the final brushstroke. You can also read what past couples have shared on my testimonials page.
